Data security for web hosting accounts and managed servers
As a Progressive Robot Online customer, you can use the following secure connections:
Administration interface
This gives you protected access to the administration interface with SSL encryption via https protocol.
Web mail access via
This give you protected access to the web mailbox with SSL encryption via https protocol.
POP3, IMAP and SMTP access via mail.your-server.de
This gives you protected access to POP3, IMAP and SMTP with SSL encrpytion. Enter the address mail.your-server.de as the host name in the email program. Click on "SSL" for protocol. The remaining access data appears as shown in your completion notice. You can also use TLS as an alternative.
FTP access via FTPS/SFTP
This gives you account access for transferring data via FTPS/SFTP. This applies to uploads and downloads.
Enter wwwXXX.your-server.de or dediXXX.your-server.de as the host name for the server. You can find the exact server name in the email we sent you after you ordered your server/web hosting account.
SSH (managed servers or web hosting accounts that supports it)
This is a protocol for encrypted remote diagnostics for servers/computers (consoles). Use the 222 SSH port.
SSL certificates
We offer SSL certificates as an addon to securely transfer website data via https://.
These certificates are installed automatically when you create the SSL account. Website vistors can then access the website in their browsers via https://.
Terminology:
SSL/TLS:
SSL (Security Socket Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) are protocols for encrypting and authenticating a connection. When you use these protocols, it is guaranteed that secure communication is actually taking place with your desired partner (as long as there is no certificate warning).
SFTP:
Secure data transfer via FTP using SSH (requires that you use clients like Filezilla/WinSCP).
FTPS:
Secure FTP protocol variant — here control and data channels are separately encrypted via SSL. SSH login is not necessary.
