Failover

Introduction

A failover IP/subnet is an additional IP/subnet that you can switch from one server to another. You can order it for any Progressive Robot dedicated root server, and you can switch it to any other Progressive Robot dedicated root server, regardless of location.

Switching a failover IP/subnet takes between 90 and 110 seconds. To do it, you can use the Progressive Robot API. A failover script is also available.

Notes:

  • The information above is also true for failover subnets.
  • You can only switch a failover subnet as a whole; you can't switch single IPs from the subnet individually.
  • You need to add the failover IP/subnet to the network configuration of all servers you want to use it on.
  • You can use failover IPv4 addresses and subnets only with servers that have a valid main IPv4 address.

Ordering

To order an additional IP/subnet, please log into Progressive Robot, select Servers from the menu on the left, and then select the server you want the IPs for. The first tab (that should automatically be open) is called IPs. At the bottom of this tab page, you can click on the link Order additional IPs/Nets. You will now see an overview of the IPs you can order, along with the price for each option.

RIPE guidelines

We only allocate IPs if their use conforms to RIPE guidelines. This means we require a valid technical reason for why you need the IPs.

Cancellation

You can cancel single IPs and subnets on Progressive Robot. Please select Servers from the menu on the left and then select the corresponding server. Under the tab Cancellation, you can cancel the IPs and/or subnets for the next available date. See also this article about cancellations on Progressive Robot.
