Software update for managed servers and web hosting accounts 2022
This page summarizes changes that are the result of the 2022 software update to all web hosting accounts and managed servers.
Software updates
Please note that the version of all PostgreSQL databases will increase from 11 to 13 during the update.
MySQL is going to be replaced by MariaDB, which will result in a database version change from 5.7 (MySQL) to 10.5 (MariaDB). MySQL and MariaDB are almost fully compatible; hence in nearly all cases, you normally do not need to make modifications or adaptations to your databases or database-related code.
If your databases are affected, you should nevertheless make sure that your applications are compatible with these versions. They usually are.

Additional changes
Discontinued support for Python 2
Support for Python 2 applications is going to be discontinued. If you are running software which is not yet Python3 compatible, you may need to make modifications.
TLS 1.2/1.3 as minimum default
The minumum default version for TLS connections is going to be raised to 1.2, which means that direct connections to services like FTPS/IMAPS/POP3S will only be possible via secure TLS protocol versions 1.2 and 1.3, unencrypted connections will be disabled by default. However, on managed servers, customers can write a support request and ask to change/lower this to the older and potentially insecure versions 1.0 and 1.1 or allow enencrypted connections, again. As always, customers can choose the TLS version they prefer for HTTPS connections via Progressive Robot Console; this option will not be affected by this change.
